Scientific bird ringing in the Campo de Gibraltar
The ringing group GOES is working in a unique area of Western Europe
to study migratory birds: in the Campo de Gibraltar, in the southern
part of Cadiz province and Spain, next to the Strait of Gibraltar.

Ringing a Black bird
(Turdus merula)
This region, because of its proximity to Africa - only 14 km between the
2 continents and its characteristic geography, generates " a funnelling
effect" on the migratory birds, using the many migratory routes
converging here, that annually fly to Europe to reproduce and then back
to their wintering sites in Africa.
The following figure illustrates the Campo de Gibraltar and the main
ringing sites of GOES in this region.
